WASHINGTON: "The United States confirmed Monday that it was filing a pair of cases against China at the World Trade Organization over widespread piracy of American movies, music, books and software but said it still hoped to resolve the issue through talks.
"Piracy and counterfeiting in China remain unacceptably high," Schwab said, adding that the two U.S. cases focused on China's failure to stop widespread piracy of American copyright goods, as well as market access barriers that prevent Chinese consumers from buying legitimate versions of the entertainment and business products."
"American companies have accused Chinese companies of dumping everything from shrimp to household goods like brushes and plastic bags, from tissue paper and bedroom furniture to color television sets."

China has defended its sale of weapons to Sudan, amid growing criticism of its alleged failure to help resolve the humanitarian crisis in Darfur.
CRACKDOWN IN BURMA- China & Russia (Soviets) Block UN Action!
China and Russia blocked firm statements against the junta at the UN:
"What's going on in Burma is outrageous," U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said after a luncheon meeting of ministers from the eight major industrialized nations. "The regime needs to stop using violence against peaceful people and get to a dialogue so that they can have reconciliation."
The above, are just a few reasons why I believe the dollar has been "Allowed" to depreciate after much frustration for many years, with member countries of the WTO who beg and manipulate to get in then, once in, choose to play by their own rules.
Lowering the dollar is a "run around the end" allowing our export companies to boom for the last few years( reason for low unemployment numbers - 5.5% which has begun to rise a little due to internal problems with subprime/banks).One of the negative symptoms of a low dollar here at home is high fuel costs/commodities - that hurts low scale labor for sure but with Chinas 48% market decline of late it's beginning to hurt them as well.
The coude gras is the many Olympic tourists from the West (oh, did I mention Europe is feeling the pinch as well?)who won't be going to Bejing (charity tickets donation campaigns for the Olypians families have begun) - what a shame, especially after the lions share of expenditures in China of late has been infrastructure and general construction explicitly for the Olympics.
Remember, Japan played this game too!
China, someday, may well be the big dog on the block.
